PolioPlus Charity Dinner

For more than 35 years, Rotary has worked to eradicate the poliovirus. The long-standing and intensive commitment of Rotary and its partners has already reduced the virus by 99.9 percent. Two countries are still considered endemic: Afghanistan and Pakistan. But we're not there yet! Until the virus is completely eradicated, it poses a threat to children worldwide. This is also shown by a case of polio in New York in autumn 2022 and traces of the virus in the sewers in London last year.

One particularly active in the fight against polio is Rotarian and polio survivor Bashar Asfour of the RC Tbilisi Ambassador. This year he is dedicated to a special project: the European Polio Tour. With a trip across Europe, Asfour wants to generate awareness and donations for polio. To this end, he travels in autumn from Berlin to Chemnitz in an electric VW bus provided free of charge by VW Porsche Austria, visiting Rotary districts and clubs on the way. On September 12 he will stop in Zurich. That's why we're hosting a benefit dinner in District 2000 with Asfour as the guest of honor. The event is open to all Rotarians, will take place at Circle Zurich Airport, and presentations will be in English.
