At the initiative of one of our members who comes from Bethlehem, the Rotary Club Zurich Circle International has joined forces with the Rotary Club Bethlehem in Palestine to improve the unsatisfactory drinking water situation in Bethlehem's schools. Approximately 180 schools with around 70,000 pupils are affected.
The problem:
- Scarce freshwater resources
- Irregular water supply from Israel
- Suboptimal water quality
- Very hot climate
Proposed solution:
- Installation of suitable storage containers
- Installation of water coolers connected to a filtration system
- Reduced dependence on single use plastic bottles
- Increased public awareness of the importance of water conservation
We are looking for more clubs to support this project together with us.

Having just initiated a major project in Beirut (heart operations on children), we currently have only limited financial reserves. The average investment per school is around CHF 2,500 - 3,000 and we have set ourselves the goal of helping at least 25 schools in Bethlehem.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions.
We would also be happy to provide you with a more detailed project description in the form of a PowerPoint and/or we would gladly present our project at one of your club meetings either in person or via Zoom.
